Grand Canyon

"Drift Away" - for Special Edition Hardback and Softback publication by Client Voyage photos and limited edition prints sold by Aitor Santome

Few places on Earth stun you into silence with nature’s majesty whilst holding you captive within its history.  The gentle commentary of the tour guide fades as you find yourself soaring thousands of feet above the canyon floor.  The roaring machine transports you, giving way to an unexpected silence created by the awe and wonder in your mind as it processes the magnificence that suddenly opens up and envelopes you.

Approaching one of the world’s ancient wonders, small Nevada towns give way to stubborn greenery even in the harshest of climates.  The piercing blue waters of the Colorado River  have, for over 5 million years, carved a tear so great in Earth’s surface it can be seen from outer space and yet this vastness echoes with sentiments of solitude that could humble the most chaotic of spirits.
Scars are not synonymous with astounding perfection, but this beautiful tear on our planet does not require our compliments, just our wonder and respect. Billions of years of geological evolution expose a palette of colour, an array of angles and shapes in which multiple rock types marry into each other through millennia of disruption. If not for the rare distant glimpse of a mule deer, coyote or other creature that has adapted to live in respect to its environment you almost feel you are traveling through an alien world.

You catch your breath knowing that the small area you explore is but a pin head in this nearly 300 mile Canyon Kingdom.  As the sounds of man return to your readjusting consciousness as the bright lights of Las Vegas suddenly erupt from the desert floor ahead of you. Through wet eyes you realise hours of time have just stood still. The sobering realisation that you are truly insignificant to nature, and in those moments, your soul, within its shell, has found peace drifting with her, Nature, free and at one with your world.
